The position of the stop knot on
the tool while tying
the loop knot will determine the size of the loop, as the slip loop
knot
will slide up to this stop

The size of the fixed loop will
be ½ the distance
from the end of the tool. Now proceed to tie the standard loop knot,
wrapping
the loops around the tool and the main line as shown below

Slide the Knot off of the tool
and pull up tight,, then
slide the loop down to the stop knot, cut the tag, and your set

Of course a sliding loop can be tied the same, just without the stop knot, this sliding loop is also excellent for attaching your line to your reel spool, this will give you the strongest possible knot in case a fish has pulled all of your line from your reel , you might be able to gain some line on him. Most knots now used for this, fail, much below the breaking strength of the line, if you ever get spooled by a fish , you will loose it, with most other knots used for attaching the line to the spool.
When attaching line to a reel
spool you can tie the knot
with a very large loop first, then trim the tag, and slide the loop
over
the spool, pull the loop up tight, and you are set. On bait
casting
reels, run the line around the spool, and through the level wind ,
before
tying the knot, then trim the tag, and pull the loop up
tight. There
is no loop tied, that is too large, as they will all pull up, so give
yourself
plenty of line to work with, and the job will be EZer.
